Voting from home
Voters who are unable to go to a polling station due to illness or disability can apply to vote from home or where they are.
You must apply to the municipality to vote from home or where you are. You can reach out verbally – a written application is not required.
When contacting the municipality, you must specify the reason why you want to use the option of voting from home. Documentation is not required – it is enough to inform the municipality of the reason why you want to vote from home.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline to vote from home is Thursday 4 September at 12:00.
How does voting from home work?
Before you cast your vote, the election official explains the process and will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Voting from home uses almost the same process as voting from a polling station:
- Election officials bring all of the necessary equipment, including a complete set of ballot papers, including all parties and groups with lists in the constituency. They will also bring blank ballot papers.
- You select the ballot paper you want to use and then fold it, so that the field where the stamp goes is facing out. This way, nobody can see who you are voting for.
- The election official will check your identification and put a stamp on your ballot paper.
- You drop the ballot paper into the ballot box, and you have cast your vote. Your vote is secret, so you keep all of the ballot papers you did not use.
Need assistance?
Election officials can explain the process of voting and provide any assistance you may need.
If you need assistance with casting your vote, the election official or another person of your choosing can assist you.
Both the election official and any other person you choose to assist you have a duty to keep confidential any insight they may glean into who you voted for.
